Air Pollutants Indoors

Posted on 04-22-2021

This Earth Month we take a look at air pollutants that happen indoors.  Air pollution simply means a contamination that occurs in the air such as molds, pesticides, gases, smoke among others.  When a group of contaniments are trapped inside of a building, especially those built to be more energy-efficient, air in such buildings become more stagnant and stale due to construction to reduce air coming in or escaping.  If a building lacks proper ventilation, those inside can be breathing in toxic chemicals causing health issues.

There are some things you can do to help alleviate symptoms that indoor pollutants can cause:

  1. Take a walk outdoors.

  2. Open windows or doors for fresh air flow.

  3. Set the thermostat to below 66 degrees.

  4. Take regular breaks from your desk.

A business can improve their air quality by using HEPA filters, HVAC filters and making sure carpets are vacuumed regularly.  Add plants to office space which are proven to help with air quality.

Let's do our part in helping to take care of our earth as well as our health.

Did You Know?

Hydropower is energy that comes from the force of moving water. The word "hydro" means water. Hydropower is a renewable energy source too. It is also a clean and environmentally friendly source of energy. There is no fuel to burn so there are no harmful emissions put into the air.
